Criminal defence lawyer refused bail on drugs and other charges

A criminal defence barrister from Sydney has been refused bail after being arrested on drugs and other charges on Friday night.

Ugo Parente, a solicitor and barrister based at the Liverpool office of Marsdens Law Group, was arrested on Friday evening following a search of his car in Eastlakes which allegedly uncovered quantities of methamphetamine and GHB as well as $3,000 cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime.

Parente’s barrister indicated that bail would be applied for on behalf of his client next week at Central Local Court.

Drug supply carries lengthy terms of imprisonment depending on the quantity of substance concerned, with maximum sentences ranging from 15 years to life.

No further information is currently available about the case.
