Now and then, police have been under investigation for using extreme power to control a particular situation. Police brutality should be a crime.

The incidence of Byron Bay teenager is a clear example of police brutality. Four police officers are under investigation for misconduct for beating a disoriented teenager.

The CCTV footage of the four police officers beating the teenager was first aired on A Current Affair causing an outrage in local community.  The 16-year-old schoolboy is seen with no clothes on being held down by officers, sworn at and struck with a baton in a street of Byron Bay in the early hours of January 11 this year.

The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) through a public hearing will investigate whether any NSW Police Force officer involved in the apprehension or detention of the teenager engaged in serious misconduct.

A similar incident came to light when in Melbourne a disability pensioner was beaten, abused, humiliated and filmed by Victoria police earlier this year. John’s psychologist was worried about his mental health and wanted the police to check on him. But the CCTV footage of John’s house shows they did much more.
